[Early, early morning and she can't sleep. She's exhausted from working today, but she's more exhausted from gritting her teeth in the face of a snake, wary of the moment he'd bite and anticipating it even if it didn't come. She tosses and turns in bed until well into 3am, and finally rolls over to grab her phone from the box she's hidden it in, away from the little fuzzballs, and turns it on.]
so, he found me and nobody died a triumph for all, i'm sure
[ is it surprising bellamy isn't even asleep at this time? he had dozed off around ten, but had awoken only two hours later unable to fall asleep again. it's a good thing he had bought a few books from the bookstores over the last few days. he's reading matilda when raven texts him. ]
[ he doesn't know what to think. in an ideal world, he would've been able to prevent her having to look murphy in the eye. but this isn't an ideal world, let alone one he has any control over or in. kane had been right about that. he was no longer in control. ]
[ when he's in the middle of his shift, bellamy opts to text caroline. he's not going to write a note; there's no paper, aside from the napkins, and appearing aloof is how he likes to spend his time at work. really, she's only helping him make his day move ten times slower. #genius. ]
How will you know if I'm at the masquerade when we're all wearing masks? Defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
[ bellamy isn't so sure what to make of caroline's little forceful nudge. he'd considered not going at all and seeing if she was as good as her word, but a part of bellamy kind of wants to go to see what the fuss is about. unity day had been a masquerade, but the type of outfits the kids wore were always so plain in comparison. on the ark, it seemed to be like the suit caroline had sent him, but on the ground, it's really nothing. ]
[ clarke's text doesn't surprise him, but it's not because he's clued in caroline's trying to set them up. unity day had been a dance she'd been involved in, too. maybe she's as curious as he is to see the differences between the ark's idea of a masquerade and eudio's. ]
[it had only been a minute or so since she had been contacted by samantha that octavia agreed to come to eudio again. she was actually surprised at how fast that was but the first thing clarke does is immediately send a text to bellamy]
so you know how i told you that octavia could come back?
i just thought i'd let you know that she will be back tomorrow.
[ this is the kind of stuff that bellamy finds hard to believe — hope. octavia being back means he has hope she'll be safe. octavia possibly coming back puts bellamy in good spirits. ]
[ and it means these representatives aren't as full of shit as he had wished to believe. ]
[by now clarke knows that she was proven right about octavia being back from her network post. it was something she expected but a few days later when the monthly meet and greet was happening, seeing that a certain best friend arrived was definitely something that she didn't expect in the least and it completely catches her off guard.
later in the evening though after she's had some time to try and process this is actually happening, bellamy is the first person she decides to tell about this before informing everyone else] so i just found out someone else we know arrived.
[ as far as bellamy's concerned, the people he's desperate to have in eudio have since returned. it's one person who makes up his people — or had, back in the days where he felt as though it was the blakes against the world. ]
[ he does think about harper and jasper and monty and miller, of mel and monroe, but he has a feeling they'd be too impatient to wait around for him to make contact first. ]
You got some deal with the representatives that they give you a head's up?
[There is a moment on Lincoln's end where he adjusts to using this particular facet of communication. Bellamy can hear the sounds on Lincoln's end that have to do with him adjusting and ensuring that he is actually sending over a message.
He's getting there.
As it is, the message here is for a reason. There is an aspect of their discussion that they hadn't touched on, and it's become abundantly necessary. The mountain is gone. Bellamy got in. And for reasons that Lincoln can't grasp, the animosity with Anya is back in place, fully and completely—though that may be because of him.
Because it could be, his first words are clipped and direct:] You got in.
[It's straightforward, and betrays Lincoln's lack of knowledge. But he thinks it's a good place to start.]
[ it takes a while for bellamy to even respond. a part of him is a little too caught up in speaking to anya, and another part doesn't want to talk about it anymore. the less he talks about it, the further away it moves from him. he doesn't want to reminisce about the mountain or tell anyone how he got out from the belly of the beast. thinking about it, from lincoln's involvement to maya and clarke and echo, hurts. ]
[ it doesn't surprise him lincoln's learned how to eavedrop. isn't that a skill every grounder needs to have when trying to survive? ]
Yeah. [ his own voice is clipped. if this was video, lincoln would be greeted by a cool expression, one guarded and sharp, designed to ward away those who think to even approach him on this subject. but he knows lincoln would. he'd learned something about lincoln that day. not only does he underestimate his own strength, but he isn't aware of how he's not a monster. ] I did.
[ bellamy doesn't find lincoln asking to be strange. although he suspects he'd made his way back to camp jaha to o, he wouldn't put it past him to not say a word. he wouldn't put it past him to avoid raven's workstation where bellamy's voice could've been heard crackling through the radio. bellamy understands how guilt works, and he's been avoiding looking up at the stars in fear he'll see three hundred bodies from section 17 lighting it up in a pretty glow. ]
[ speaking about the mountain to lincoln is difficult. betrayal is something he's never taken too lightly, but he's always been able to pick his battles. it's a struggle now; bellamy sometimes wondered if lincoln would've turned his back on o for a sip of the red drug, too. ] I don't go back on my word.
[ and grounder princess is learning a lot that bellamy doesn't want to tell her. it's bad enough lincoln's figured out how to eavesdrop via the phone. it's bad enough either of them are here, even though bellamy truthfully doesn't mind lincoln hanging around. he's good for o, even if bellamy finds himself still slightly pissed off about their plan falling to pieces inside the mountain. ]
[ he's glad raven decides to text him instead of call. he feels exhausted from the last few days. ]
[ it's all said in good fun when bellamy looks at the picture of raven and a ... he's going to assume it's a dragon, given it seems to wear the same expression as toothless. if his nose presses against his phone, at least she's not here to make fun of him for it. ]
[ Come November, and Elsa oscillates between elation and melancholy. She's said a few too many goodbyes lately, but Kristoff's presence has made the transition into the new month better for both her and Anna. It doesn't stop her from worrying, turning over a note someone left for her about two weeks ago before eventually sliding it back into her desk drawer. ]
This is a silly question, but I just wanted to check if you were still here.
[ just like he hasn't properly answered her. it shouldn't surprise bellamy someone wants to check up on him, or that someone wants to keep an eye on him, but it may always end up being a shock to someone who has always felt responsible for those around him. ]
It sounds a bit strange, but I managed to do a few geometry problems while enjoying one of these sparkly 'bombs' you gave me for my birthday. Making the most of your present!
and now he imagines her naked in the bath doing geometry puzzles.
[ he's glad the bath bombs was right. he honestly had no idea what the hell those things were when he went in and out of every store, using anna's description to help him find whatever it is elsa would like. but he hadn't meant she had to use the gifts together or at once. ]
I hear you're meant to relax while in the bath. Geometry puzzles, Elsa?
[ neither of them have made plans to see each other and elsa thinks its fine, considering the significance of the day and what it would mean if she said something to him about it. dissatisfied with complete inaction, however, elsa still hand delivers a set of antique, leather bound books she believes will be of interest to him. as she mentioned to tinkerbell before, she had purchased them weeks in advance with him in mind. the strange thing is that she doesn't even worry that he won't like it. she's actually quite confident that he will, but is too shy to see his reaction. instead, there's a note:
Bellamy, even the greatest wars end and the hero can find his way back to his loved ones. I thought you could use these copies for your shelf. Love, Elsa. ]
[ this day has been surely been something. the last thing he expects is a phone call, but he doubts someone's about to ring him up to declare their undying love for him. (it seems like the kind of thing that would transpire on a day like today.) ]
[ if he bothered to learn how to set individual ringtones, he'd know it was elsa before looking at the screen for the caller identification. ]
[ he smiles, voice sounding warm despite being on his way to taking another nap for the day. ]
[ believing the intrepid explorers have found bellamy – and assuming that someone has yelled at him to turn his phone back on – elsa messages him with a rare selfie. it's not really a selfie, save for her big blue eyes and the top of her blonde head. atop her head is chion, designated by a blue bowtie. as she is sitting on the floor of her townhouse, in the background are several other snowgies with various accessories, which she and anna have accumulated over the last several months. ]
[ it's been emotional, to say the least. bellamy feels more drained than he'd bargained himself to be when he'd impulsively set out for the mountains. expecting himself to be physically tired from the journey, working his legs in a familiar yet new way across terrain he hadn't quite explored, he finds that getting a message from elsa only brightens his mood by the smallest amount. ]
[ at first, he thinks she's sent him a message to scold him like his friends had. and though he doesn't believe she hadn't considered it, he likes that he's greeted with a picture of her. ]
[ and the snowgies. there's something about them that he loves so much. ]
octavia is coming back tomorrow. just so you know to look for her. [clarke wasn't sure at first whether to out herself but it was his sister so he had a right to know she was back. she knew he was feeling down since his sister left so regardless of whether he believes her this time or not, she knows it would cheer him up at least]
[ it's not really fair bellamy even sends it. but given how clarke and he have broken some sort of wall thats built itself between them, he finds it a hell of a lot easier to return to who he was with her: comfortable and able to be honest, even if it was a petulant kind of honesty in the end. she's the only person he's confessed his own heartbreak over octavia coming and going in this city to, suspecting maybe raven's already picked up on it without him so much as needing to verbalise it. ]
[clarke might not keep track of dates where things like her own birthday or eudio anniversary are concerned but she does remember when it comes to her friends. she knows that bellamy wouldn't say anything or maybe he doesn't remember the fact it's been a year since he arrived and that was fine with her but the fact is that as of today it has been that long.
it was a bit surreal for her thinking about it especially with everything that has happened since then but at some point into the day, she decides to text him a casual text]
hey. i was thinking of going out and getting a drink. do you want to come with me?
[ bellamy knows what's coming up. it's an anniversary of his he's intent to ignore. his arrival in eudio means nothing to him, save for it being a year he's spent here, being selfish, than being back home and looking after the kids. it's not something thinks about. ]
[ he knows there are many people in the city who celebrate this kind of anniversary. but bellamy isn't one of them. expecting no one but himself to remember the date he'd arrived in cuddle city, he doesn't expect clarke remembers. ]
[ in hindsight, he should've known. it's such a clarke thing to take note of. ]
[ it's a non-answer at best, but we all know if bellamy was out saving the world, winning money, on a date, or anywhere in between, he'd go home if octavia wanted him to be there. ]
