[ bellamy looks at her with his brow raised. ] Anyone ever tell you you're kind of boring, Clarke?
[ for someone so controlling, she seems to let the reins slip from her hands quite frequently. he's the opposite; he keeps them tightly wound around his fingers until his circulation is almost cut off. bellamy likes to ensure he knows what he's bound to get, ordering from the menu or his own recommendations on what sounds decent and fitting for his mood. ]
[clarke is actually well aware of her actions and while she would normally be a bit more specific with her choices, it is entirely deliberate of her part to do the exact opposite. it's a habit she has forced on herself to loosen up a bit because it distances herself from the person she has had to become.
from her perspective, it makes things a bit more interesting but his words do get to her slightly because how is that even boring? she lets out a small laugh and idly just eats a couple of the peanuts that she has in her hand before she turns to glance over towards bellamy] Oh, yeah I'm sure I've heard that from someone before. You'd call that boring?
[clarke wasn't specially referring to him even though she's heard it from bellamy before since she's heard other people tell her that too too but this time, she can't help but roll her eyes at his words even though she walked right into that one] Oh come on— I think it makes things a bit more interesting.
I mean, otherwise you'd be ordering the exact same thing so isn't that more boring in comparison?
[ bellamy shakes his head. ] Not if you close your eyes and let your fingers do the walking.
[ as if to show her he lives on the wild side, he grabs a drink menu and rests it on the counter. he looks at her smugly, letting his hand hover over it before his finger ultimately lowers and presses itself against it. ]
[ but he doesn't read out what he's pressed his finger against — or show her how far off from where the text on the menu happens to be. it's all about living recklessly, after all. who knows what tomorrow will bring? ]
[clarke could already guess what he was intending to do from his words as he randomly pointed to one of the drink options without so much as looking at what he selected from the drink menu]
So your alternative is to go with something at random from the menu? [she looks slightly amused but she isn't against the idea either as she picks up a menu for herself so she could make her choice]
Yes, Clarke. [ he shakes his head when he looks at her, slightly amused, a little exasperated. goading clarke had been a hobby of his back on the ground when things were simpler; he doesn't see any reason why he shouldn't bring it back. ] You're in a city where you can get anything you want. And you're just going to stick with what you know? I thought you were more fun than that.
[the minute clarke asks him the question, she knew she asking the obvious given his response.] I know and I wasn't planning on just sticking with that.
[technically she knows he is right about how she should be more adventurous but his words about how he thought she was more fun do get to her slightly despite her best efforts] I can be more fun that that too, you know. [she opens up the menu she just picked up, flips it to the pages with the drink selections and copies his actions from earlier. she randomly points to one of the drink items on the menu without looking since her glance is focused on bellamy instead] See? I'll order whatever drink this is when the bartender comes over to ask what we want.
[ bellamy doesn't take his eyes off her, smile soft but remaining on his face. he doesn't even try to peer at the menu she's chosen to pick up and take his bait with. ]
We'll see. [ his lips curve even more, wanting to ensure that clarke becomes the badass he knows her to be. he picks a peanut from a bowl, popping it into his mouth. ] When was the last time you even had fun, Clarke?
[clarke roll her eyes at his words but it's clear she's taking in good humor as she smiles slightly when she responds] You know I'm pretty that game of soccer we played counts. [technically there were probably other examples she could try to give but since this was one example he was part of he can't exactly say she was making it up]
[clarke laughs slightly, shaking her head while playfully poking his shoulder] Of course I have— I know that wasn't recently but that is at least one example you'd know of. [there are definitely other examples she can probably give but indirectly she might also be admitting that she has fun with him too]
[ he crosses his arms against his chest, his expression turning cocky. it's almost like old bellamy, the armour he'd worn back when he'd first dropped to the ground. this time, though, there's no malice. the bellamy she knows lurks underneath with the friendly curve to his mouth. ]
[clarke just knows that expression and she just looks over towards him somewhat amused before before waving over to the bartender to come over to request their drinks] Does it matter? I'm pretty sure you'd call it boring. [she knows he would really because she has found that their definitions vary when they do spend time together but not in a bad way]
[ his brow arches as he smiles. ] So you haven't done anything fun since then. You just had to say so, Clarke. I won't judge you.
[ if bellamy is good at anything, it's pushing people's buttons. people-watching had been one of his favourite things to do on the ark, as it was one of the only things to do. it helped him learn the habits of those around him, which guardsman was on duty at what time and which one of them chose to linger by their door when they shouldn't have. ]
[ it's the same for clarke. except bellamy knows if he pokes her a little, she'll eventually give. she always does with him. ]
I never said I haven't. [clarke huffs slightly looking slightly indignant before she just rolls her eyes] Oh, come on— you would judge me either way. Just like how the way I order drinks is boring. [it's not something she is surprised in the least despite her protests]
Speaking of which— we should probably order our drinks already. [she picks up he menu again and with her finger still on the drink she randomly selected, she points it out and hands over the menu to the bartender after letting him know her choice] I'll take that one there.
[ he glances toward the bartender, lips still curved into an amused smile. ] Make it two.
[ then he looks at clarke, smile still in place. bellamy suspected back before the world had shown itself to be ugly that him looking at her with such an expression would've made her shift uncomfortably and grow insecure under his gaze. he suspects it now, if the reaction to be slightly more friendly. ]
[clarke arches her brow slightly when he opts to just get the same drink as her instead of the one he randomly pointed to from his own menu] You're going with the same drink as me?
[she looks a little amused but she just shakes her head before letting out a sigh after the bartender soon leaves to prepare their drinks. maybe being called boring was making her feel slightly self conscious but she figured she might as well push past the topic] If you must know I went with a friend of mine to the arcade a few days ago.
[ if it really does bother her he's ordered the same as her, it'll only give him more incentive to do just that. bellamy blake may be good at strategising at times, fantastic at inspirational speeches to rally the troops, and a good, if intense, big brother, but he's also a great teaser. he can be a good friend when given the chance. ]
[ he looks at her, brow slightly arched. ] Did you stand on the sidelines while your friend was having fun?
[clarke just shrugs at his words, it didn't bother her that he was ordering the same drink she was but it was more like she thought he was going with the one he randomly selected from his own menu] I didn't say there was anything wrong with it— I guess I was just surprised.
[she doesn't know what exactly she ended up ordering but hopefully it was something good at least. hearing his question that follows, clarke just shakes her head] Of course I didn't— I joined in and played some of the games too. [there were a few two player games and with the single player ones they just took turns and just competed with who got the highest score]
[ she's making it so easy to make his own assumptions about her playing prowess. he taps his fingers against the bar, lifting his gaze when the drinks arrive. he doesn't touch his immediately; he knows what it tastes like and though it's not in his usual wheelhouse, bellamy likes his alcohol when he treats himself to it. ]
[clarke doesn't touch her drink yet either when it arrives but mostly because bellamy's assumption distracts her. technically she knows she probably walked right into that one since she wasn't exactly specific either] No— okay so I only lost once but I did win the other games I played.
[ with a smile, bellamy shakes his head, fully embracing that he's purposefully being a pain in the ass. a part of him wonders why she's being so stingy with details. does she really not want him to know anything about what she does with other people? bellamy doesn't know how proper friends behave around one another when there's no war, but he has a feeling they share things. ]
[ the one thing he's trying to be better at, while also failing miserably. ]
[sometimes when clarke talks about her other friends, the fact she leaves out details isn't exactly intentional or something she realizes most of the time but she's trying. technically it is something she has talked more about with bellamy than anyone else but that might have to do with the fact she has found herself spending more time with him than most people these days.
she isn't exactly surprised when he doesn't take her word for it. she just looks more amused than annoyed by his words and shrugs her shoulders] Well in that case, I'll just have to show you if you want to go to the arcade with me next time.
[ that may technically belong to carnivals, but bellamy's been inside an arcade a few times. he finds them to be too loud. after the first time, and being taken back to how it'd been on the ground with the grounders attacking and bullets flying, he'd had to take a few certain measures to ensure he never went back to that place when he was inside. sometimes good company can be the best distraction. ]
