[ it's probably not the first time she's had him to hers but maybe it's the first time she's actually invited him over instead of something that occurs naturally. ]
Yeah, they can come. [ another stride for her. but she's pretty sure that she's never going to get used to or be okay with that snowgie thing. she pulls her keys out of the pocket of her probably-too-short shorts before heading towards the door.]
[ bellamy lingers behind to round up the dogs, bending slightly so he can tap his legs as a gesture for them to come forward and to him. nike bounds toward him happily and brushes right by him, but zelo's a harder sell. ]
[ eventually, he comes. ]
[ he doesn't reach down to grab them by a collar they don't wear or the scruff of their necks. unsurprisingly, bellamy's trained them to behave. they're like his gunners, if a little hairier and needier than the kids who had formed his militia back home. ]
[ cocking his head to the side, he looks at her with a smile. ] Lead the way.
[ octavia wouldn't like the dogs as much if she knew he thought of them in that way, like those kids he'd riled up and held under his thumb in an attempt to keep them on the ground without any adults. octavia still had mixed feelings about all of that.
she wasn't think about home for now, her stomach was churning with the sudden and new need for food even if she'd already had an early dinner.
she gets them inside and towards the elevator, pressing the button as her spine straightens in anticipation of the ride up. she's just a floor lower than bellamy and two apartments over.]
[ packing two dogs inside of an elevator is difficult when they're not shoved inside of purses. they're too big and they're too curious, and bellamy finds it amusing how they've been inside this elevator many times over and yet still press their snouts to every corner they can sniff. ]
[ he leans against the back wall, watching the numbers on top of the two doors begin to count. zelo brushes against his leg as nike's tail whacks octavia's. they enjoy the elevator ride more than he does, and he doubts octavia's particularly happy to be inside of the box again. ]
[ glancing over at octavia, he smiles. ] You didn't have to do that.
[ octavia has trouble with it when it's just her in the elevator. being crammed into the metal box with two dogs and her brother isn't ideal. she just has to remind herself that she isn't in the floor, that she's upright and in a matter of seconds, they'll be free of it. ]
I know, [ she says with a shrug, the "but i wanted to" is implied with the shrug. her fingers nervously tap on her arms, her eyes closing for a moment. the first elevator ride had been a fun novelty, now it wasn't any of that. when the door dings, she starts and is ready to get the hell off.]
[ fortunately for octavia, she doesn't need to worry about pulling a dog by the scruff of its neck from the corner of the elevator. he almost doesn't make it off with nike's head refusing to lift from where she's sniffing the rug on the floor, but he manages. ]
[ the dogs follow, tails wagging, drifting off to the sides but ultimately following their leader obediently. he makes sure to stay a few steps behind octavia to allow her to lead, and to bring up the rear of their little party. the last thing either of them need is for someone who lives on her floor to give her a hard time about the two beasts that seem too fond of following her. ]
I'm sure they'll like it. The toys. You know they like you, right?
I kind of figured it out-- [ she looks back at him with a perked eyebrow before looking at the dogs as they follow her to her own front door. considering they both sniff her like crazy each time she comes over and one or both of them like it when she pets them or pays them attention, she thinks she's got a pretty good in with them.
the walk isn't all that long, they go past two apartments before they reach hers, she twirls her keys on the ring before she goes to unlock the door to her apartment. ]
[ following her, he calls the dogs over, feeling nike nudge him with her nose as he stands to the side of her door. he doesn't try to pull the dogs back once she opens it; they push by both of them to enter her apartment, sniffing the walls, corners, furniture, carpet. ]
Hey! [ he leans in the door way and rolls his eyes. sounding exasperated, he watches as the dogs try and explore each surface of her apartment quickly. ] Come on.
Good luck, [ she snorts when he tries and fails to control his dogs. she doesn't care where they go in her apartment, they're welcome to spend the whole time sniffing if they want, so long as they don't do anything to the little collection of sands and plants she's slowly gathering from her various adventures.
she moves to set her keys down before grabbing the bag left on the little table in her kitchen area, pulling out two rawhide bones and tossing them towards the livingroom with two loud clunks.]
Get 'em. [ that'll keep them distracted, she thinks before she moves to kitchen.]
Okay, I have... this oven pizza stuff. Or left over... [ her brow furrows as she tries to remember the name.] Pad Th-- Thai. It's like noodles. Or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
[ following her inside, he makes sure to close her door behind them. the dogs look up to notice where she is in her apartment before they go about sniffing again — and become distracted once more when she tosses them a gift. bellamy can't help but smile, shaking his head. ]
Whatever you want, O.
[ he drops onto the couch, head resting against the back of it as he stares up at her ceiling. being in octavia's own space, one that has bits of her actually noticeable for anyone to come in and see, will always be a nice surprise for him. they'd had to keep any evidence of her hidden, mostly tossing it beneath the floor or never giving her anything that couldn't be passed off as his. ]
[ he thinks mom would like it, but he doesn't say as much. ]
[ after realising his answer hadn't been helpful, he opts to not be so indecisive and dependent on her to make a choice. ]
[ the first week she'd been in the city, octavia struggled with having her own space. for a long time, she left it as it came, she didn't personalize anything, she was meticulous in cleaning up the place to leave little to no trace of her. it was conditioned after years of living like that. then the second week, she went through a rebellious stage, when she was finally getting comfortable, that she left everything out, let her clothes hang on furniture, made loud noises, danced around to music...
it was her space. her own. and the novelty had yet to wear off yet.]
Okay. [ she moves to preheat the oven. she learned that on her own too. she'd had enough of the pizzas to know exactly what temperature was needed before she went to the freezer to pull out a pizza.]
But you choose what we watch. [ since she's been sort of choosing since she got here.]
[ leaning forward, he rests his arms on his legs, ready to move. but it's quite clear to him octavia doesn't need him to help her out anymore. he simply sits where he is, an eye on the dogs as they busy themselves and lie down as though they own her apartment, and one on her as she moves around confidently. ]
[ it's all bellamy's really wanted for her, and finds it doesn't look odd at all. ]
[ he smiles when he teases, ] You really want me to pick? I could pick something that's really crap.
You could? [ she laughs, moving to pull out two beers.] I think you mean you will pick something that's really crap. [ she holds up said beers.] Want one? [ yes, maybe she's seeing if there will be any big brother mode in action or if he'll have a drink with his sister.]
[ bellamy's taste isn't crap all the time. it feels like one of those challenges: i bet you'll pick something that's really shit, but it's been designed to make him sleect something that's actually incredibly decent. considering the types of things he likes to watch, he doesn't doubt octavia wouldn't enjoy them. she hasn't seen everything, and despite his year of being in eudio, neither has he. anything is better than what they had, which was nothing at all. ]
[ he settles, though, when she holds up the beer. his expression is definitely big brother — he sighs and looks at her with a slightly raised brow — and it's on the tip of his tongue to tell her not to keep that crap in her fridge, but he nods his head. ]
Yeah. [ he smiles and teases, ] I'm going to need it if I'm hanging around you.
[ octavia's tastes are pretty varied at the moment. when everything is new, everything is pretty damn great. she's struggled to find things she does like. okay, so she doesn't like cauliflower, she'll be happy never to eat anything soy again. ever. she avoids nuts and she doesn't really like classical music all that much. and no movies about space.
it turns out she loves spicy foods. the spicier, the better. she really enjoys a dumb action movie. not the sort with a lot of gratuitous violence but car chases and propelling off of buildings.
he passes whatever test she was throwing at him with the beers, moving to set them on the counter before she puts the pizza in the oven and sets the timer.]
Yeah, you'll need beer goggles to even look at me. [ she's using that term in the wrongest way but she doesn't know as she heads towards the couch with the beers, offering one to him before she sits down next to him.]
[ bellamy shakes his head, laughing. the test he'd passed with flying colours is one he easily destroys within a blink. while bellamy may not be the most cultured, he's watched a few too many movies with dudebro humour, and he's hung out at pubs, overhearing some of the incredibly unkind things some have said behind the backs of others. ]
[ he's her big brother. it's his job to make sure she doesn't say this kind of stuff to people who'll take advantage of her lack of knowing. ]
[ he takes the proffered beer from her. he doesn't look at it when he opens it and the twist of the lid elicits a satisfying sound. ]
Never say that to me ever again. Don't say that to anyone.
[ she opens her own beer before she glances at him with an incredibly furrowed brow. why was he laughing? had she said it wrong? of course, her understanding of what beer goggles are was limited, she hadn't seen enough dudebro movies to know. she'd heard it said at a bar she went to with raven and she thought it mean drunk-vision or something, no sexual connotation to be had.]
[ he has to wonder where she's heard it. had raven used it when they'd spent time together? he can suspect she's gone to a bar, either in the company of their shared friends or people he has yet to meet. ]
[ relaxing against the couch, he shakes his head. ]
Hey stupid, [ she gives his arm a shove when he pulls that stupid line.] Don't make me say that I'm old enough now. [ because she is and she moves to take a sip of her beer as if to prove that much.]
[ bellamy hasn't laughed so much in months. it doesn't go unnoticed by him, but he doesn't say anything, either. he suspects it'd only make octavia wilt. ]
I'll pick something good, I promise.
[ leaning forward, he reaches for her remote, and turns on the television. flicking through the channels, he searches for the very movie he's trying to record back at his apartment. ]
[ he makes sure not to look at her, nor properly suppress his smile, when he says, ] Good thing you have adult supervision around for this. Kids aren't allowed to watch it on their own.
[ oh, he's going to get it now. she reaches for one of the pillows on the couch and uses it to thwack him right on the arm, the arm not holding the beer, of course.]
[ bellamy laughs, rich and loud. he leans forward to place his beer on the table before him, pulling a coster or something else to place it on. they may not have had much in means of possessions, but mom did teach them manners, after all. ]
Have you seen Hot Fuzz?
[ he settles into the cushion of the couch and looks at her, brows raised. ]
[ scrolling through the list of movies, he hunts for it. sometimes he ends up flicking right by what he's searching for. almost a year here, and he still isn't used to some of the technology. ]
Small town mystery. There's a swan involved. Ever seen one?
A swan... [ she has to think for a moment because...] No, I guess I haven't. [ she knows what they are, she's seen pictures and read about them but... she realizes she's not sure she's ever actually seen one moving.]
