[she knows his response is based on an assumption, already thinking the worst given how octavia has come and gone before. she can't exactly blame him for that but that is exactly why clarke tries to remain positive believing that octavia won't leave this time and that she will stay for bellamy.
hearing his question, she hesitates for a moment before sending a follow up text even though she suspects he already knows her answer] yeah. i did ask for her again for you.
[ there's clarke's optimism, always seeing through his negative shit. it's why he sometimes likes talking to clarke. where he feels hopeless and helpless, she injects him with some hope and some help — and this happens to be one of those scenarios. ]
[ it should've been him asking the representatives to consider approaching octavia for a third time, but he hadn't so much as had the confidence they would. he hadn't wanted to hear them inform him octavia no longer consented to being approached, or she'd used up her chances of being invited into the city. to hear octavia may not need him anymore was something he was afraid of most, and so clarke had taken it upon herself to do what he wasn't strong enough to even consider. ]
[clarke still doesn't feel like she is strong enough for most things but asking the city reps to bring octavia for bellamy's sake was easy. it was something she knew she could do and fix for him since it worked before. it might have taken a couple more months this time but clarke thinks it was worth it though]
you don't have to thank me. she's also my friend too, you know. [she doesn't respond to the last part, purposely trying to be casual about it even though her reason for asking really was because of him]
[ reading between the lines, bellamy knows she hadn't asked for octavia to return for her own sake. clarke's a likeable person who would do anything for her friends, but he knows she hasn't gone to the representatives to ask for lincoln or jasper or monty or finn or her own mother. it's his sister she's asked for. it's his sister she's thought to go and request she be approached time and time again. ]
[ it means a lot more than bellamy's able to acknowledge and articulate, and he's grateful clarke's contacted him via text instead of calling. ]
Guess she's lucky to have you then, Clarke.
[ he doesn't want her to think she's getting away with this without getting some of the acknowledgement, and so he thinks to tack on: ]
[clarke knows she shouldn't be surprised by his words but she still is regardless and she almost feels herself crying again which makes it a very good thing that this is text]
[ he's only had one other person look out for him aside from himself, and that has always been octavia. to have clarke be at his back and watching it diligently — it's not a surprise to him, given what he knows about her, but it's not something he's come to necessarily take for granted. it's still startling in its own way. ]

Thanks. Again. But you need to stop doing that.
